Hidden Woods

We are an award-winning woodland activity centre, based in 80 acres of ancient woodland just a stone’s throw from Bath, Frome and surrounding area.

We have sensitively developed four fantastic camps around the woods, all of which boast a great variety of ‘wow’ features, like sheltered fire pits, rope swings, mud kitchens and stream play areas. Having a choice of camps at our disposal has several key benefits, such as ensuring that we do not impact on any one area too heavily and being able to choose the camp best suited to the group, conditions and activities on any given day.

The woods have a rich variety of flora and fauna, including a resident pair of buzzards who are regularly seen perched in their favourite tree near our base. In the spring a large area of the woods is carpeted with bluebells – just one of the seasonal delights that visitors to the woods can expect to come across.

Throughout the development and ongoing management of Hidden Woods, our aim has been to create a place that will capture the imagination and create a sense of wonder both for children and their carers. Make sure to book ahead through the website!

Family Mornings
(Regular Sunday sessions for all ages)

Join us for a morning of fun and adventure in our wonderful woodland playground. We’ll be taking a short walk to one of our lovely camps, where we’ll get stuck into natural crafts, games, camp fire cooking, singing, free-range play…or maybe just relaxing by the fire! Oh, and did we mention our incredible mud kitchen?!

All sessions are facilitated by experienced Hidden Woods leaders and will go ahead in all weathers – if necessary we have large group shelters with fire pits and plenty of great activities that we can do underneath them.

These sessions aim to provide time and space for parents and children to step back from their busy lives, to reflect and interact with the world at nature’s pace – slow and steady. Whilst we will have various activities set up, the sessions are very much child-led, and often go in different directions! Whether the children are up for some quiet fireside crafts or burning off some energy climbing and digging, they’ll have a great time. These events also bring together a fun, friendly and caring group of parents, who seem to enjoy the activities and fireside social as much as the children!

 Toddler Groups (Saplings)

Every Friday 9am-10:30am and 11am-12:30pm

Join us for lots of fun and child-led adventure in our wonderful woodland playground. Every child can be themselves at Saplings, free to safely explore wherever their curiosity leads, starting with a short walk to Beech Camp.

Holiday Clubs (for ages 8 and up)

Even when school is out our children never stop learning and there’s no better environment to support your child’s growth than a natural one.

Outdoor learning is being increasingly recognised as playing an integral role in holistic child development. With benefits including improved language and communication skills, increased self esteem and confidence, more motivation and greater concentration to name a few. All that besides, it’s good clean, or rather not so clean, fun and has something incredible to offer every child.

As with all our activities for youngsters, holiday clubs follow the Forest School ethos of facilitating child-led learning and discovery in the outdoors. Everything we offer builds on the innate curiosity and sense of wonder that the natural environment brings out in children of all ages.

No two days are ever the same at holiday clubs. We take our lead from the interests of the children and the conditions on the day, exploring adventures like bushcraft, environmental art, woodland crafts and games, campfire cooking, journeying through the woods and of course, free play.

We enjoy taking the opportunity to pass on a range of hard skills to those eager and interested, including using tools and managing risk effectively, bushcraft and survival knowledge. Supporting the development of softer skills like cooperation, empathy, emotional intelligence and leadership are elegantly weaved throughout the sessions by our experienced leaders.

With our well-kitted-out-for-any-eventuality established camps, complete with large group shelters and fire pits, these days offer an exciting opportunity to play, learn and make new friends, whatever the weather!
