Heritage Open Day

Next dates

Sorry, there are no future dates available

Head to American Museum & Gardens on 18th September as they offer access to our gardens for free as part of Heritage Open Days.

Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the hilltop site of the Museum’s home takes full advantage of the spectacular views over the Limpley Stoke Valley and River Avon.

The 30 acres surrounding the house include a replica of George Washington’s garden at Mount Vernon, an Arboretum as well as a Children’s Garden which opened in 2020. The gardens underwent substantial updates over the past several years and include a New American Garden, the first European commission for Washington DC-based landscape architects Oehme van Sweden (OvS).

In addition to the gardens, for a small upcharge, visitors can visit our Manor House and Exhibition Galleries which take visitors on a journey through a period of American history primarily focused on the 14th – 20th centuries, as well as see our special exhibition Shooting Stars: Carinthia West, Britain and America in the 1970s. With our remarkable collection of folk and decorative arts and cultural objects, the Museum shows the diverse and complex nature of American traditions.
